The $50,000 2016 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale juvenile Bring It Home Pop, opened the new $1.5 million Queensland Summer Crown series by winning the $100,000 Naturally Australian Meat & Game Handicap 1000m for two-year-olds at Eagle Farm on Saturday 3 December.

The Queensland Summer Crown series is for 2YO’s, 3YO’s and Sprinters and is in addition to four Magic Millions wild card events which gain entry into Australia’s richest raceday, the $10 million Jeep Magic Millions on the Gold Coast. The Summer Crown also offers owners a further $500,000 bonus should their horse win three Crown series races.

The new-look $14 million Queensland Summer Racing Carnival features 16 black type races, the $100,000 Villiers Stakes-Bernborough Handicap Bonus and three ‘Road to the Magic Millions’ lead-in races. And the centre piece is the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale conducted on 11-17 January 2017.

Following Bring It Home Pop’s victory, the 2YO’s $500,000 Summer Crown now moves to Doomben on Saturday 17 December for the listed Calaway Gal Stakes for 2yo fillies and listed Phelan Ready Stakes for 2yo colts and geldings both run over 1110m, and both with $100,000 in stakes.

The Gr3 B J McLachlan Stakes of $200,000 is the third Summer Crown event and is run over 1200m on Saturday 31 December at Eagle Farm. The restricted listed $2m Magic Million 2YO Classic of 1200m concludes the $500,000 Queensland Summer Crown for 2YO’s at the Gold Coast on Saturday 14 January.

The undefeated Winning Rupert, trained by Bjorn Baker and a $67,500 2015 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale graduate, ran a track record to take out the first 3YO Summer Crown event the $100,000 McInnes Wilson Lawyers Plate 1200m for colts and geldings at Eagle Farm. The listed $100,000 Mode Plate 1200m for 3yo fillies went to the I Am Invincible sired Eckstein a $165,000 graduate of the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The 3YO Summer Crown also moves onto Doomben on Saturday 17 December for the listed $100,000 Gold Edition Plate 1200m, then the $200,000 Gr3 Vo Rogue Plate 1300m at Eagle Farm on 31 December and finalising with the restricted listed $2m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 1400m on 14 January.

The Queensland Summer Crown for Sprinters commenced with the Tony Gollan trained Most Important, a $260,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy from Yarraman Park, taking out the $200,000 Gr3 George Moore Stakes 1200m on Saturday 3 December.

The Sprinters Crown flows onto Doomben for the listed Lough Neagh Stakes 1300m of $150,000 on Saturday 17 December and then the $150,000 Buffering Handicap over 1300m at Eagle Farm on Saturday 31 December.

At the Gold Coast Magic Millions meeting on Saturday 14 January 2017 the Sprinters Summer Crown divides into the restricted listed $1m Magic Millions Cup of 1400m and the $1m Magic Millions Sprint run over 1200m.

New to this year’s Queensland Summer Racing Carnival is the $100,000 bonus for the winning connections whose horse can win the 2016 Villiers Stakes and then take out the listed $250,000 Bernborough Handicap 1600m at Eagle Farm on Saturday 31 December.

The time honoured Gr2 Villiers Stakes also carries $250,000 in stakes and will be run over 1600m at Royal Randwick on Saturday 17 December. This lucrative bonus is aimed at bringing the best milers together for an outstanding Queensland Summer of Racing.

The new look $1.2m ‘Road to Magic Millions’ Eagle Farm meeting held on New Year’s Eve Saturday 31 December is a lead-in to the $10m Jeep Magic Millions Raceday at the Gold Coast on 14 January.

In addition to the three Queensland Summer Crown races staged for 2YO’s, 3YO’s and Sprinters plus the Bernborough Handicap there are three additional Magic Million Wildcard events with the winner gaining automatic entry into Magic Millions races on 14 January.

The listed Falvelon Handicap of 1000m and carrying $100,000 in prizemoney is programmed as a Magic Millions Sprint wildcard event. The Shoot Out Handicap run over 2200m and with $100,000 in stakes is a Magic Millions Trophy wildcard event and is in addition to the Fillies & Mares listed Nudgee Handicap 1200m is a $100,000 wild card entry into the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares on 14 January.

And then there is the Magic Millions Raceday at the Gold Coast on Saturday 14 January 2017. The international recognised restricted listed $2m Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1200m is the day’s principal event, with the 2016 winner Capitalist going onto to capture valuable Golden Slipper Stakes. The $2m Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas of 1400m is also a restricted listed event is also a $2million race.

Of the $1million stakes events the restricted listed Magic Millions Cup is run over 1400m, the Magic Millions Sprint is 1200m, Magic Millions Trophy 2200m, Magic Millions Fillies & Mares 1300m, Magic Millions QTIS Open 1300m, plus the $250,000 Magic Millions Country Cup 1200m and the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden Plate of 1200m.

The Queensland Summer Racing Carnival concludes with the listed Sunshine Coast Cup 1400m on Saturday 28 January run in conjunction with the 2YO Classic QTIS Added Stakes Plate.
